Divisions
Lower & Upper
Description
A choreographed solo dance performed in unison with other competitors. This division emphasizes musical interpretation, performance quality, and respect for the original choreography.
Judging Criteria
-
Musicality: Competitors should demonstrate clear knowledge of the dance and perform movements that align precisely with the music
-
Performance: Judges will evaluate full-body engagement, including facial expression, posture, and upper-body styling. Dancers are encouraged to use the song’s intro to capture attention and to finish with a strong, musically appropriate ending
-
Choreography (Step Sheet): Competitors may add styling, embellishments, and creative variations from the very beginning of the dance.
-
Variations must preserve the original flow, phrasing, and timing of the choreography.
-
The dance should remain clearly recognizable as the original step sheet while allowing for individual interpretation.
-
Upper Division: Full creative freedom is encouraged, including tricks and acrobatic elements, provided they are executed safely.
-
Lower Division: Full creative freedom is encouraged; however, flips and acrobatic elements are not permitted.
-
Excessive deviation that changes the original flow, phrasing, or timing of the choreography may result in score reduction.
